Outside the gates of Europe? The potential for migration from Africa ,
The study entitled "Outside the gates of Europe? The potential for migration from Africa" provides an up-to-date, detailed analysis of the factors on the African continent which may cause future migration.
After briefly embedding the term "migration potential" in migration theory approaches, the study illustrates four aspects:
- demographic structures on the African continent in comparison to Europe,
- the development of the economy and the labour market,
- political factors such as forms of government and conflicts, as well as
- factors with an environmental relevance, such as the impact of climate change.
The results are compared with the current regular and irregular migration movements between Africa and Europe, as well as with the African populations already living here. Against the background of these analyses of developments in the migration potential, a qualitative assessment is provided of potential future migration within Africa, to Europe and to Germany.
