This version of the Synthesis Report was prepared on the basis of National Contributions from 26 EMN NCPs (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and Norway) according to a Common Template developed by the EMN and followed by EMN NCPs to ensure, to the extent possible, comparability. The Main Study was part of the Work Programme for the EMN in 2014.
The purpose of this EMN 2014 study is to identify similarities, differences and best practices with regard to the use of detention and alternatives to detention in the context of (Member) States’ immigration policies.
The outcomes of this study are primarily intended to inform policymakers and practitioners.
