Your start at the BAMF

Are you looking for a responsible, varied job that offers flexible working hours? As an employer, we offer a variety of ways that you can apply yourself and your skills.

In the IT sector

The Federal Office would be inconceivable without its modern IT. We have set ourselves the goal of digitising not only the asylum procedure, but also many other areas of the Federal Office’s work. We have already been awarded prizes for this, for example for the best digitisation project in 2016, and we received the Gold eGovernment Award for our Blockchain project.

We consistently follow new paths, and are aware that we can only be successful together as a team. Our developers work in an IT laboratory, using modern equipment according to the agile Scrum method.

Our ambitious digitisation agenda includes 115 different plans, projects and procedures that are already well advanced, but which can benefit from your competent support.

We are therefore constantly on the look-out for committed IT specialists.

  • Do you have experience in an IT profession, and are you looking for a creative task in a modern working environment with up-to-date technology and employing innovative working methods? Then you have many different opportunities to join us!
  • Apply to the BAMF because we head the field in digitisation in the public service. This has enabled the Federal Office to be represented in the specialist community in many ways, and to have a presence at events and congresses.
  • We can offer you a secure job, and you will be part of a flexible team. You will support the departments in all matters and topics, and thus help to shape the asylum and migration situation in Germany.
  • Financially, you will not be able to negotiate your salary independently. Your salary is based on collective agreements and on civil service law. Especially for the IT area, however, there are various opportunities for financial benefits to be awarded on a case-by-case basis, e.g. there is the possibility to receive an IT allowance of up to 1,000 € per month.

We look forward to receiving your application!

As research employees

In our Research Centre, we analyse the effects of migration and integration processes in Germany, as well as gaining insights that are beneficial for the management of migration at national level, providing policy advice, and carrying out research into processes related to the integration of people with a migration background in Germany. Our Research Centre furthermore contributes to the transfer of information between science, administration, politics and the public.

The research that we carry out ranges from the economic impact of immigration, through to international migration and social cohesion.

Our academic staff have graduated with a Master’s degree, mostly in the social or political sciences, and are interested in quantitative or qualitative empirical social research.

If you are also interested in the topics of migration and integration research, then we look forward to receiving your application.

If you have completed vocational training

You will need to have completed vocational training if you want to work for the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees in the intermediate service career path. In many cases, this should be commercial or administration-related vocational training, for instance as a retail salesperson or tax clerk. The BAMF also offers employment opportunities for other qualifications, such as computer science.

For graduates

  • direct entry on graduation,
  • or for those who have professional experience and are looking for a new professional challenge,
  • in law, administration, social sciences, economics, politics or the humanities
