In summer 2005, a survey of attendees in 100 integration courses selected at random was carried out in conjunction with the Directorate-General for Integration in the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees and with the relevant regional co-ordinators responsible for the courses.

The aim was to ascertain the need for target group-specific courses for women or young people and the way they wished the courses to be designed. The concept of integration courses was then further developed in the Directorate-General for Integration building on the results of the survey. The final report is available as Working Paper 5.
