Similar to the core tasks of the Federal Office in the field of migration and integration, the research analyses the impact of migration processes on the Federal Republic of Germany and obtains information for managing migration at national level. The research field furthermore accompanies the process of integrating people with a migration background in Germany and contributes to the academic further development of integration activities at federal level.
Further fields of activity relate to monitoring migration to Germany and to the EU in an international context, to the link between migration and demographic change, as well as to the economic impact of immigration. Migration research in the Federal Office is complementary research. The research group works to carry out its activities with research facilities at home and abroad, and as the central state body dealing with questions on research in the field of migration, makes a contribution towards the transfer of information between Academia, the administration, industry and policy-makers.
