The influence of integration courses on the integration of female integration course participants of Russian and Turkish origin

In the research project "Integration process of integration course participants (integration panel)" the effectivity and sustainability of integration courses is examined. To supplement the quantitative survey, qualitative guideline-based interviews with female integration course participants of Russian and Turkish origin were conducted.

The Working Paper points out the influence which the participation in the integration course has on further integration of the female participants (cultural, structural, social and emotional integration). In that context, the self-perception of the interviewed women, regarding their own integration and their understanding of integration, is of special interest. The effect of a potential obligatory participation in the courses is also examined.

Furthermore, it is being discussed, if the improvement of the German language throughout the participation in the course causes a change in self-perception, a strengthening of self-confidence or eventually also an emancipation or even an adaption of new roles ("Empowerment").

The integration course as a good basis for further integration

As the results show, the provision of the integration course with the medium of basic knowledge of the German language laid a good foundation for advancing the prospects for further integration, for all interviewed women. Even after completion of the course, there has been a positive change for most of the respondents and they were able to more or less integrate themselves into society. Also, an "Empowerment" has been observed after attending the course.

Once an integration process sets off, different areas of integration enforce each other. However, all developments strongly depend on the each person and its environment. In particular, these developments depend on the personal initiative that people show after completing the course, to be able to develop even further.
