Extract from the series "Integration report", part 6

The working paper "Basic data on Germany's immigrant population" forms the sixth part of the "Integration Report" series. Information is provided on the key sociodemographic data relating to migrants and their families in Germany. The first section of the paper is devoted to "People with migration background" and uses the latest microcensus data to provide more information on this group (total figures, countries of origin, age and gender structure, length of stay and geographical distribution across Germany). The second section presents the relevant data on foreign nationals comprising a subset of the "People with migration background". The key sources of data used are the Central Register of Foreign Nationals (AZR) and the current population statistics.
In addition to presenting and interpreting the relevant figures, the working paper also deals in detail with the above-mentioned sources and the conceptual differences between them, thereby helping to make the data easier to understand.
