The Research Centre's Annual Report 2019 , Date: 2020.11.30, format: Annual Report of Research Centre, area: Authority

The annual report gives an overview of the focal points of the work of the Research Centre for Migration, Integration and Asylum in 2019. Both ongoing and completed research projects are presented as well as publications, professional events and lectures.

2019 was a year of change at the BAMF Research Centre. Having already been organisationally expanded to form a research department the year before, management positions were also newly filled.

As regards to content, the ongoing multi-year IAB-BAMF-SOEP survey of refugees deserves special mention. This project is being carried out together with the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) and the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW/SOEP). Based on the surveys in 2016 and 2017, a total of four short analyses were published in 2019.

The project Evaluation of the Integration Courses (EvIk) is aimed at researching the effect of the integration courses with a special focus on refugees. In September 2019, Research Report 33 was published as Interim Report I to the research report "Evaluation of the Integration Courses (EvIk)", which focuses on initial analyses and findings on the integration courses, which were obtained on the basis of qualitative interviews and existing secondary data.

In the area of return research, the publication of the first report on the accompanying research carried out together with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) on the federal funding programme "Starthilfe Plus" met with a high level of interest from experts and the media.

The Migration Report, which is to be presented annually and provides a comprehensive overview of the annual development of immigration and emigration including all immigrant groups, is also of great importance. The Migration Report 2018 is preceded by a special chapter which describes recent political and legal developments in the field of migration and asylum. In addition, the contents of the Migration Report have been made more easily accessible in digital form.

Together with the partners in the European Migration Network (EMN), several studies have been conducted dealing, among other things, with ways to German citizenship and innovative start-ups by third-country nationals in Germany.

Finally, in 2019 it was also decided to set up a Research Data Centre (FDZ) together with IT.

The Annual Report is only available in German.
