Research Report 43 investigates the incidence of COVID-19 and vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 among persons with and without experience of migration.
The analysis is based on data from the RKI SOEP-2 study, which was carried out in the field from late 2021 to early 2022.
It examines the infection risks to which persons with and without experience of migration, respectively, are exposed, and the level of vaccination protection within the groups.
The most important results at a glance
By the end of October 2021, most people in Germany had already come into contact with the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 at least twice.
The analyses show that a significant majority of people in Germany have already come into contact with the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 at least twice by the end of October 2021 - either through vaccination or through an infection and at least one vaccination.. The proportion was somewhat smaller among people with experience of migration than among those with no experience of migration. Only a very small number of people had already had three contacts. There was however no difference between people with and without experience of migration.
Twice as many people with experience of migration had already contracted COVID-19 as people with no experience of migration.
Twice as many people with experience of migration had contracted COVID-19 by the end of October 2021 as people with no experience of migration. This disparity can be attributed to socio-economic differences between the two groups.
People with experience of migration were slightly less likely to have been vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 at least once by the end of October 2021 than those with no experience of migration.
A significant majority of people with and without experience of migration had received their first vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 by the end of October 2021. The proportion of people who had received their first vaccination was slightly higher among people with no migration experience, but not the proportion of people who had received their second vaccination.
