The low birth rate, increasing life expectancy and the effects of the existing age structure serve to amplify processes by which the population in Germany is both shrinking and ageing. One may hence anticipate that migration movements will continue to exert an increasing effect on demographic developments in future. It is however unsure how migration will develop in future.
