Immigration and integration of ethnic German repatriates - Identifying and evaluating the impact of the Residence Allocation Act , Date: 2007.11.13, Order number: FFFB03 , format: Research report, area: Integration

The Research Report of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees – Vol. 3 (Forschungsbericht des Bundesamtes für Migration und Flüchtlinge) provides information on the impact exerted by the Residence Allocation Act on the integration of ethnic German repatriates.

The report was drafted within a project of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) to ascertain and evaluate the impact of the Residence Allocation Act.

N.B.: The Residence Allocation Act, which contained a sunset clause making it valid until 31 December 2009, has now expired.

The study is broken down into three sub-areas. The concept of the study is presented in a fundamental part and an overview provided of the data available. The report explains the legal basis for immigration and the geographical distribution of ethnic German repatriates as it is determined by allocation. Developments in immigration are described using official data. The geographical distribution among the Federal Länder, as well as in the districts, is analysed, followed by a summary of the state of the research.

The internal migration conduct of ethnic German repatriates and regional aspects of integration, as well as integration into the labour market, education and linguistic integration, are described. The study focuses on the empirical findings both of the qualitative survey of the expert discussions in the local authorities, and on an analysis of the primary data from a questionnaire carried out among ethnic German repatriates. This report closes with a conclusion and recommendations.
