The anthology entitled "INTER:SECTIONS. Findings from research and counselling practice on Islamist extremism" contains a variety of articles from the FoPraTEx network of researchers working at advice centres. FoPraTEx is the acronym for "Research-practice exchange concerning the phenomenon of Islamist extremism".

How to bring together research and practice concerning the phenomenon of Islamist extremism? The anthology entitled "INTER:SECTIONS", published by the BAMF's Research Centre, which was drawn up in cooperation with the FoPraTEx network of researchers, addresses this question.

The network is based at various civil society and state advice centres which are active in counselling persons who are in contact with individuals who are allegedly Islamistically radicalized. Its core task is to support advice centres through research, and its unique distinguishing feature consists of directly interlinking research and practitioners in the field.

Content

The anthology reflects the wide range of current practical issues in the prevention of Islamism. It is broken down into three sections, each of which follows a thematic focus.

  • The first section focuses on the challenges posed by research on deradicalisation, as well as concerning the evaluation of intervention methods.
  • The second and longest section is entitled "From researchers, for practitioners". It presents findings on various relevant extremist movements of "legalistic Islamism", and the challenges faced by counselling practitioners. In addition, it reflects Salafist-Jihadist radicalisation and its impact on deradicalisation and demobilisation processes. With regard to counselling practice, systemic counselling as well as aspects of professionalisation and standardisation are examined in detail.
  • Entitled "From practitioners, for researchers", the third section offers insights from the advice centres on current issues concerning radicalisation and deradicalisation processes. This is done by "trend analyses" which have been submitted to FoPraTEx based on questions from practitioners. The questions have been evaluated by the BAMF's Research Centre.
