The German report for the Research Study 2004 provides an overview of the current state of migration research and reveals both important results and research gaps. The study provides an outline of the development of immigration in Germany since the mid-fifties and deals in detail with the influence of immigration in industry, culture and politics. Furthermore, it provides an overview of the structural framework of the integration of immigrants.

This study is the German contribution to the pilot research study entitled "The Impact of Immigration on Europe's Societies" in the European Migration Network (EMN).

It was prepared by external authors - Elvisa Torlak (HWWA), Edda Currle and Veronika Vitt (efms), Dr. Kathrin Prümm (COMCAD) – as well as by staff members of division 220 (Dr. Susanne Worbs, Dr. Axel Kreienbrink and Dr. Peter Schimany).
