Conducting interdisciplinary research on current trends and developments in the field of Islamist extremism and deradicalisation constitutes a major focus of the scientific accompaniment of the Advice Centre on Radicalisation.

To this end, the Research Centre of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) established a unique Network of embedded Researchers called FoPraTEx who are responsible for the exchange of research and practice in the field of Islamist extremism. The BAMF Research Centre is coordinating this Network.

The researchers introduce themselves

Hanna Baron

Researcher at the Turkish Community of Schleswig Holstein E.V.(TGS-H). She graduated with a Master of Arts in Islamic Studies at the Free University of Berlin. Her research interests include methods and strategies of the "legalistic-Islamist" groups in Germany and their significance for counselling work, gender-specific ideologies, roles and strategies concerning the phenomenon of Islamist extremism.

Annika von Berg

Researcher at the Violence Prevention Network in Bavaria. Having graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Sociology, she studied Political Science (Master of Arts) at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and at the Corvinus University in Budapest. Her research focuses on risk assessment of extremist individuals and distancing processes.

Dr. Vera Dittmar

Director of research at the Deradicalisation Research Centre (FORA) in Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia "Crossing Boundaries" Advice Network (IFAK E.V.). Academic background: M.A. in Social Science Methods at the University of Stellenbosch and studies of Social Sciences at the Humboldt University Berlin. She is a certified systemic counsellor and is currently doing research on the Potential of systemic counselling as a deradicalisation method.

Laura Hugenroth

Researcher at the Violence Prevention Network, Advice Center Hessen. Master's degree in ethnology, sociology and religious studies at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. Her research focuses on recruitment.

Gloriett Kargl

Researcher at the Violence Prevention Network in Berlin. Having undergone training to become a communication and media expert, she studied Education at the University of Vienna. Within the framework of the BAMF Cooperating network of the Advice Centre on Radicalisation, she develops nationwide quality standards for counselling work in the field of deradicalisation.

Sofia Koller

Research Fellow on "Counter Terrorism and Prevention of Violent Extremism" and project leader of InFoEx at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP). She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Management at Regensburg University of Applied Sciences and the German-Jordanian University in Amman. She then studied International Conflict Studies (M.A.) at King's College London.
The focus of her research includes the international exchange of knowledge and cooperation in the field of tertiary prevention of Islamist extremism.

Marion Lempp

Researcher at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, M.A. in Social Work. Contributed towards various fundamental research and evaluation projects, focussing on the topical areas "right-wing extremism", "Islamism" and "Generalising hostility constructions (PAKOs)". Scientific support at the "SALAM" Advice Centre against Islamist Radicalisation in Rhineland-Palatinate, focussing on formative structural, concept and process evaluation.

Dr. Michail Logvinov

Dr. Michail Logvinov, M.A., diploma in education, is an extremism researcher and crime prevention specialist. 2004 he received his doctorate in philology in Volgograd and in 2011 in political science at the Technical University of Chemnitz. His research focuses on politically motivated violent crime, counterterrorism and extremism prevention.

Katrin Maier

Employee in the project "Scientific support of the advice center against Islamist radicalization 'SALAM', Rhineland-Palatinate" with a focus on formative structure, concept and process evaluation at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, Bachelor's degree in Psychology. Participation in basic research on processes of affinity for and distancing from "Islamism".
