The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) entered into force on 25 May 2018. In addition to the Federal Office's obligation to provide information, it has additional obligations to provide information under Articles 15 to 22 and Article 34 GDPR.

If you apply for asylum, you are obliged by law to provide the Federal Office with certain personal data. Your asylum procedure may have to be discontinued if you do not do so. It is also possible that your asylum application will be denied or that your benefits as an asylum-seeker will be reduced.

The Federal Office will use your data for further processing in your asylum procedure, and will pass them on to courts and other public authorities. The Federal Office is entitled and obliged to do so by law. The data may also be transmitted to other countries and non-governmental organisations. This will naturally only take place if it is necessary and legally permissible for your asylum procedure. The information provided during the asylum procedure is not disclosed to the authorities of your country of origin.

Your data will be erased at the latest ten years after your asylum procedure has been completed, or after you have left Germany.
